Drone Services in Abbotsford

Industrial Aerial Solutions is based in Abbotsford. Local sites get local response, and the YXX control zone that stops other operators is airspace we are certified to work in.

Industrial Aerial Solutions is a drone LiDAR, photogrammetry and thermal imaging company headquartered in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Abbotsford is the company's home base, so mobilization to sites in the city and the surrounding Fraser Valley is same region rather than travel billed from out of town. Much of Abbotsford sits inside the Abbotsford International Airport control zone, which requires a Transport Canada Advanced RPAS certificate and an airspace authorization to fly commercially. IAS holds that certificate.

01 / The Local Picture

Why Abbotsford Is
Different Airspace

Every region has a reason the work is different here. This is ours.

  • Abbotsford International Airport, YXX, sits in the middle of the city and its control zone reaches over a large share of Abbotsford's industrial land, farmland and Highway 1 frontage. A drone operator holding only a Basic RPAS certificate cannot legally fly commercial work in that airspace. A great many local operators hold only Basic.

  • IAS holds a Transport Canada Advanced RPAS certificate and is qualified for controlled and restricted airspace operations, including obtaining Special Flight Operations Certificates where a job needs one. That is the difference between a site being flyable and a site being a phone call to Nav Canada that never gets made.

  • Being based here also means the aircraft is not travelling. A same city job carries no mobilization from Vancouver or the Interior, and weather windows in the Valley can be caught on short notice instead of scheduled around a three hour drive.

02 / Local Applications

What We Fly
Around Abbotsford

Covering Sumas Prairie, Matsqui Prairie, the Highway 1 corridor, Mt Lehman, Clearbrook and the Abbotsford industrial lands.

Agriculture

Berry and Dairy Operations

Abbotsford is one of Canada's most intensive agricultural municipalities. NDVI and multispectral mapping over berry fields, corn and forage gives growers block level vigour data, and repeat flights through the season show where drainage and irrigation are actually failing rather than where they are assumed to be failing.

Aggregates & Earthworks

Pit and Stockpile Volumetrics

Gravel and sand operations along the Sumas and Vedder systems need defensible inventory numbers. A LiDAR or photogrammetry flight measures every pile on the yard in one visit and produces a volume report that reconciles against the scale house, without a crew walking the piles.

Flood & Drainage

Sumas Prairie Terrain Data

The 2021 Sumas Prairie flood put drainage, dike condition and ground elevation on every local agenda. LiDAR derived bare earth terrain models feed hydraulic modelling, pump station planning and culvert design with far denser coverage than a ground crew can collect.

Development & Construction

Progress and As Built Documentation

Abbotsford's industrial and residential build out along Highway 1 and Mt Lehman needs regular, dated documentation. Scheduled orthomosaics give the owner, the contractor and the city the same picture of what was on the ground on what date.

04 / FAQ

Questions About
Working in Abbotsford

Industrial Aerial Solutions is based in Abbotsford, British Columbia, so Abbotsford work carries no mobilization travel. Travel and mobilization are quoted transparently as part of the project, not hidden in the day rate. For jobs outside the Lower Mainland the quote states the mobilization cost as a separate line.

Aerial photography and video runs $250 to $1,200 per shoot. Everything else is quoted per project, on area, required accuracy, terrain, canopy, travel and deliverable list. NDVI mapping, LiDAR, photogrammetry and thermal inspection are each scoped individually, and municipal and government work is normally contract based.

Yes. Industrial Aerial Solutions holds a Transport Canada Advanced RPAS certificate, the higher of Canada's two certificate levels, and is qualified for controlled and restricted airspace operations including obtaining Special Flight Operations Certificates where a site requires one.

No. IAS supplies centimetre level geospatial data products for decision support. IAS is not a licensed BC Land Surveyor and does not perform legal surveys or boundary determinations. The two work together: IAS collects dense aerial data quickly over large areas, and your surveyor or engineer reviews, marks up and certifies it.
