Drone Services in Vancouver

Metro Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond and the North Shore. The most restricted airspace in the province, and the place an Advanced RPAS certificate stops being a nice to have.

Industrial Aerial Solutions provides drone LiDAR, photogrammetry, thermal imaging and infrastructure inspection across Metro Vancouver, including Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, Coquitlam, Delta and the North Shore. Metro Vancouver is among the most airspace restricted regions in Canada: Vancouver International Airport, Boundary Bay, Pitt Meadows, multiple downtown and hospital heliports and float plane traffic all constrain where and how a drone may legally operate. Commercial flight in that airspace requires a Transport Canada Advanced RPAS certificate plus operation specific authorization, which IAS holds and routinely files for.

01 / The Local Picture

The Hardest Airspace
In British Columbia

Every region has a reason the work is different here. This is ours.

  • Metro Vancouver stacks controlled airspace on top of controlled airspace. Vancouver International, Boundary Bay and Pitt Meadows control zones cover a large share of the region, downtown and the hospitals carry active heliports, and Coal Harbour float plane traffic operates at low level right over the city core.

  • The practical effect is that a large share of commercial drone work in Metro Vancouver is illegal for a Basic certificate operator, and much of it needs a specific authorization or a Special Flight Operations Certificate even for an Advanced holder. Operators who cannot file that paperwork simply decline the site, or fly it and hope.

  • IAS holds a Transport Canada Advanced RPAS certificate and treats airspace authorization as part of the job rather than an obstacle. The regulatory piece is scoped, filed and documented before the aircraft leaves Abbotsford, and the authorization goes in the project file with the data.

What We Fly
Around Vancouver

Covering Downtown Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, Delta, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Langley and the North Shore.

Commercial Construction

High Rise Progress and Envelope Data

Dated orthomosaics and 3D models for towers and large format commercial builds, plus close range facade capture for envelope condition. On a downtown site this replaces swing stage time and the schedule disruption that comes with it.

Building Envelope & Strata

Roof and Facade Thermal Inspection

Radiometric thermal survey of commercial roofs and building envelopes finds trapped moisture and thermal bridging across a whole roof in one flight, which is the kind of evidence that settles a strata depreciation report or an insurance question.

Utilities & Municipal

Asset and Corridor Inspection

Close visual and thermal inspection of substations, distribution structures, pump stations and bridges without a lift, a lane closure or an outage window.

Land Development

Site Terrain and Pre Construction Survey

Dense terrain and surface data for rezoning applications, grading design and cut and fill estimating on infill and brownfield sites where a ground crew is slow and exposed to traffic.

Questions About
Working in Vancouver

Industrial Aerial Solutions operates from Abbotsford, British Columbia and mobilizes to Vancouver for scheduled project work. Travel and mobilization are quoted transparently as part of the project, not hidden in the day rate. For jobs outside the Lower Mainland the quote states the mobilization cost as a separate line.

Aerial photography and video runs $250 to $1,200 per shoot. Everything else is quoted per project, on area, required accuracy, terrain, canopy, travel and deliverable list. NDVI mapping, LiDAR, photogrammetry and thermal inspection are each scoped individually, and municipal and government work is normally contract based.

Yes. Industrial Aerial Solutions holds a Transport Canada Advanced RPAS certificate, the higher of Canada's two certificate levels, and is qualified for controlled and restricted airspace operations including obtaining Special Flight Operations Certificates where a site requires one.

No. IAS supplies centimetre level geospatial data products for decision support. IAS is not a licensed BC Land Surveyor and does not perform legal surveys or boundary determinations. The two work together: IAS collects dense aerial data quickly over large areas, and your surveyor or engineer reviews, marks up and certifies it.
